Abstract

We are living in a period of national dissatisfaction with health care. On one hand, the consumers of health services express various complaints regarding the medical and nursing care they receive, and on the other, the professions are beset with a multitude of social and economic problems. When needs of individuals are not met, dissatisfactions develop. Nursing literature, along with that of other helping disciplines, emphasizes meeting needs of patients. Beland believes that needs should determine the kind of care received. Parents' reactions to the care received during the maternity cycle probably indicate needs not met, and resulting dissatisfactions with the care that they have received.
