Abstract
A therapeutic modality which applies low intensity pulsed electrical currents to the head of a person suffering from one or more of a wide variety of psychiatric or psychosomatic disorders is widely practiced in the Soviet Union and several European countries. This form of therapy which is most commonly called ''electrosleep" has not been accepted in the United States in spite of 15 years of investigation by non-Soviet researchers. The literature is reviewed to examine the efficacy of electrosleep therapy and explain its lack of acceptance in this country.
