Abstract
Data concerning doctoral level dissertations in Spanish literature are sparse and analyses of such work have been non-existent. The more commonly known reference works which deal with doctoral research or doctoral degree data do not, as a rule, become so specific as to treat Spanish literature as a discrete area. Thus, instead of a heading such as "Spanish Literature," the approximations which one usually encounters are "Foreign Languages," "Languages and Literatures, Modern," or "Romance Literature," with a corresponding inattention to Spanish data in particular.
