Abstract
Engineering probably offers a wider variety of opportunities than does any other profession. Although at any one period the need for men may be greater, salaries better, or advancement faster in one branch than in another, engineering as a whole continues to provide varied and interesting work, a field of wide usefulness to society, and many opportunities for development and leadership.
There is a tremendous demand for engineers at this time due to heavy expansion and development programs throughout industry. At the same time two factors contribute to the shortage of engineers 1) the reduction of engineering graduates during the recent war emergency and 2) the fewer marriages (and consequently less children) during the depression years of the early 1930's.
