Abstract
Within the past ten years, counseling research has focused itself upon the plight of the "disadvantaged" youth. Whether this research was aimed at trying t solve the situation before it sought to define it is a question this paper is not designed to answer. This question is raised because of the far-reaching implications to counseling resulting from the disadvantaged youths plight. Some of this implications involve historical prejudices, societal ignorance, stereotypes, begotry, urbanization, etc. These are factors which the author believes reflect a question of a greater magnitude in counseling the "disadvantaged" than many realize. The counselor is, therefore, faced with treating the symptoms of a problem society has created many years ago.
