Abstract
Recent years have witnessed a growing interest in the professional status of nursing. Many leaders i n nursing and in related fields have outlined criteria by which a group can determine how far it has come along the road to professionalization. Although these criteria are variously expressed, a norm listed by most of these leaders is the possession of a body of specialized and systematized knowledge.
