Abstract
A new method for model reduction of discrete systems is presented. This technique takes advantage of the bilinear transformation and Routh approximation in the continuous domain.
The method has a number of useful properties: if the original system is stable, then the approximated systems are stable and the sequence of approximants converges to the original system. The technique is able to preserve the high-pass or the low-pass characteristic of a filter depending on the kind of filter wanted to approximate.
Several examples show the power of this method and its shortcomings.
