Abstract

The Philippines is predominantly an agricultural economy. A large portion of its national income is still being derived from farming, forestry and fishing, although manufacturing, presently limited to the production of a few basic producer goods and essential consumer goods, is increasing its contribution. The dominance of agricultural products in the export trade of the Philippines is the natural consequence of the development of an agro-export economy in the country, the principal exports being sugar, coconut products and abaca.
