Abstract

One of the most baffling problems confronting the educational system in America today is the excessive dropout rate of students in our secondary schools. Waukesha High School is no exception and is concerned about its dropout rate.

The dropout problem, because of the highly personal nature of each student, can best be attacked at t he local level where presumably a more realistic approach can be made. It was this thought that prompted the investigator to conduct a study of local dropouts. The purpose of this study was to:

  1. Obtain data that would reveal characteristics of Waukesha dropouts and their reasons f or leaving school.
  2. Use the data in arriving at specific conclusions, making recommendations f or dealing with the local dropout situation, and suggesting areas for further study.
