Abstract

The research for this essay attempts to review, analyze, and synthesize current literature dealing with curriculum, curricular implications, and the influences of applied social sciences as they might apply to designing an individualized curriculum. Learning theory, child developmental stages, personality theory, philosophy, curriculum theory, and the interrelationships of these disciplines, comprise the basic format. Furthermore, this essay represents an ongoing process, and is intended to be read as a process paper to 'build a case' for individualizing curriculum and instruction. Selected readings and thirteen years of professional educational experience have been blended together in this effort.
