Abstract

Since reading is a tool to many avenues of learning it is something that is of vital interest to teachers. Recently, individualized reading has received increased attention in the professional literature. It is a method which seems to cope best with the wide range of reading abilities within a classroom. Over the years many teachers have felt a certain amount of success in teaching reading from basal readers accompanied by supplementary texts, library books, and activities. However, with the stress today on individualized reading, many teachers are eager to venture out and try it. Some are debating whether they should completely individualize their reading program according to Veatch, or have individual reading accompany their basal program.
