Abstract
The recently developed concept that a mentally handicapped individual can with a proper education and guidance become a substantial and contributing member of his society has led to the development of perhaps the latest educational science. Even though the general area is relatively new, great strides have already been accomplished in the understanding of etiology, classification, medical and psychological diagnosis, personality characteristics of the retarded, as well as the constituents of a beneficial education.
