Abstract
The general subject of experimental design comprises the processes of planning experiments, analyzing the results, and interpreting these results. Statistically, the third of these is a matter of making certain inferences from results of the ·experiment. The technique for making inferences is what is generally known as the analysis of variance. The analysis of variance is a method of dividing up a total sum of squared deviations of variates from the sample means into several sums of squares each corresponding to a source of variation.
