Abstract
State Space Techniques have become quite popular for the solution of fairly wide class of engineering problems, particularly in the areas of automatic control theory and systems analysis. Reference 1 presents a collection of examples of the use of these techniques for such problems. In very recent years, a parallel development has taken place in the field of reliability engineering. A number of reliability parameters, most of them expressed as probabilities, can be modeled using state space techniques. The basic appeal of this approach is that it offers a standardized methodology which is well suited for the analysis of complex systems and obviates the need for development of special complex formulae for each individual case.
