Abstract

In keeping with the purpose of this essay and the findings resultant from it, I would like to dwell on supervision practices as performed by the school administrator, namely the principal, in regard to his teaching personnel. I realize this is only one phase of the supervisory duty in administration, but not having had any previous administrative experience with authority attached, this is the area that most concerns me in preparation for my future administrative post. I feel the two greatest responsibilities of the administrator today are public relations and staff relations, not necessarily in that order. One might say the two cannot be separated and are an inherent part of the instructional program. I would agree with this to a great extent. I have had some experience in public relations, but none in the supervision of teaching personnel. I feel I, personally, can benefit from this project by gaining insight through literature, although, at the same time, I am aware that this can only in part prepare me for a future administrative position.
