Abstract

The increased use of a lease as an important method of financing the acquisition of equipment services has brought about considerable controversy over the merits of this vehicle. The majority of papers concerning lease financing have either attempted to establish it as bad or good, or evaluated leasing in general terms by presenting lists of pros and cons. These papers have been of little help to the financial manager of a firm who must decide. whether or not to use a lease as the financing device for the acquisition of equipment. He is more interested in the practical considerations of how best to combine these various factors in order to facilitate intelligent decision making on specific lease versus ownership proposals for equipment acquisition.
