Abstract
It is a perversion of the past to repeat literally a formula from the former time. Man, from his own time, questions the past and every age rewrites history and reinterprets the saute past. It is in that spirit that we propose to look again at the first Council of the Vatican to reexamine the papal influence on the decree of papal infallibility passed on July 18, 1870 and proclaimed as dogmatic fact by John May Mastai, Pius IX, on that same day.
