Abstract
Santo Domingo is an insignificant portion of the Western Hemisphere, and its twin republics, French-speaking Haiti and Spanish-speaking Santo Domingo, have never been really important nations. Yet the little domain of Santo Domingo was to play a role of some importance in American history.
