Abstract

Reading-study skills, like reading, are developmental in nature. The skills taught in the intermediate grades must be an extension of those taught in the primary grades. Since the intermediate grade student is expected to become more adept at independent study, he must be given definite sequential instruction in those study skills needed by him at each grade level. While it is true many students are able to discover and learn these skills incidentally, most students are probably not able to do so unaided oy the teacher.
