Abstract

In the renewal of the Church today, many pressing problems concerning the revitalization of the spiritual life of her people were discussed at the Second Vatican Council. One of the focal points, where these same people are able to live the Christian life more fully, was scarcely even mentioned. It is normally on a parish level where the child or the adult is baptized into the Christian community; it is here he hears the saving word of God, participates in the Eucharistic sacrifice, and celebrates the sacraments. Because their Christian living revolves around and depends upon the parish, it is almost a foregone conclusion that the more vitality a parish shows, the more vitality will its members have. Many good Catholics develop a great attachment toward a particular parish, and again it is usually the parish in which they were the most involved--a clear indication that vitality demands involvement.
