Abstract

Since the earliest days of our educational system there have been a variety of procedures used for evaluating and reporting pupil progress to parents. Just as the trends in elementary education have moved toward non-grading, individualizing of instruction, and renewed emphasis on individual differences among students, so has the current system of evaluating and pupil grading been affected. One of the aspects in which the pupil evaluating system feeling this impetus has been in the method of reporting pupil progress to parents, namely, the report card. Teachers and principals have become aware of the deficiencies in reporting pupil progress to parents; the need to develop a more realistic, adequate, and meaningful method of evaluating; and the need to design a report card that reflects individual growth and progress.
