Abstract

Often in literature an author uses comparisons and relationships of visible objects to suggest intangible ideas which might be difficult to express in a straight- forward manner. This method of suggesting something else by reason of relationship and association is referred to in literature as symbolism and is consistently used by Ernest Hemingway in A FAREWELL TO ARMS.
