Abstract

The purpose of this paper is not to uncover reflections or vestiges of holistic thinking in Thomistic philosophy nor to discredit Gestalt Holism as simply a new approach to an old thought, but rather to show that functioning entities have always been throught of in relation to the whole construct. What Gestalt did was to clarify this position and to prove its existence. While no new and phenomenal variations will be offered, some pointed questions will be raised that this study has unearthed along with some applications that might stimulate new areas of thought. These provocations will be done in two main confines" that of theology and that of psychological counseling, and will then be subsequently left for those with more facile faculties to explore, piece together, prove, or disprove. With that brief introduction our attention is now turned to a review of the meaning of Gestalt Holism.
