Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to develop a better understanding of how the principles of management science can be used to explain the phenomena of market segmentation. The following paper is a discussion of the various concepts that relate to market segmentation and how these concepts provide the basic orientation for research to solve marketing problems . The paper is not designed to solve any specific operational problem, but it should increase the reader's knowledge about how market segmentation can be used to solve business problems. This paper avoids the usual general discussion about the concepts of market segmentation, but stresses the use of a scientific thinking approach when carrying out a study .
