Abstract

The purpose of this essay is the presentation of a careful and original study of John 8,32. To our knowledge, this passage has not been studied to the extent, or from the viewpoint, here presented. In the first part, an attempt has been made to survey those sources whose themes suggest a link with Johannine thought, particularly with those aspects of that thought represented in the passage we are to study. The second part, which we especially hope the reader will find to be a genuine contribution, is the result of continued consideration of this passage, one that has long fascinated this writer, not only because of the arresting promise enunciated at the opening, but also because of the presence or evocation of so many Johannine themes through out the verses which follow.
