Abstract
The discussions of the administration of Catholic elementary schools are besieged 'With generalities. There has been no careful attempt made to analyze and qualify many of these generalities. A case in point would be the sweeping statements made about what the Sister principals are doing. Reverend Michael O' Neill notes that "...it appears that in many Catholic elementary schools the principal qua principal is not a very significant figure." He suggests that the reason for this is that principals are burdened with so many teaching responsibilities and clerical duties that the job of administration is neglected. Some critics have identified the problem as financial. Other authorities in educational administration point to the poor administration or total lack thereof. O'Neill suggests that a "... productive research might be a 'task analysis' of the Catholic school principalship, with researchers recording and analyzing in detail the actual work of a random sample of Catholic school principals." Administrative theory affirms that principals cannot do two jobs at one time.
