Abstract

A large number of Afro-American people in these United States, anxious for social justice and racial equality and at the same time strong followers of Jesus Christ, find in the writings of Saint Paul a stumbling block to everything they desire. Many of the white man's familiar biblical figures are praised in song and extolled in sermons. Jesus, being the Son of God, born of poor parentage; so poor, indeed, that His parents could not offer even a lamb for the sacrifice but had to use doves instead, necessarily ranks first. The most universally beloved of all the hymns about Jesus is the well known "Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?"
