Abstract
When new and promising innovations appear in the educational field , it is the duty of educators to investigate and evaluate them. The task of this paper was to determine the relative superiority of one of two methods of teaching reading to the first , second, and third graders in two schools by means of a comparative study in which one school would teach reading and phonics using Breaking the Sound Barrier simultaneously with the basic reader . The other school would use only the basic reader materials .
