Abstract
The presence of evil has always been a mysterious force which is both fearful and fascinating to the mind of man. Satan is believed to be no mere abstraction nor metaphor, but an omnipresent reality forever transforming himself, reappearing and cleverly adapting himself to all circumstances of life. For the orthodox, he still breathes blasphemies and denial; still creates armed conflicts in which men, whom he so envies, kill each other. The incubus has moved from convents to asylums; witches pass themselves off as voyants.
