Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of the Acts of the Apostles 23:6-8. The particular understanding sought will be that of the redaction critic. What did the author intend to say by including these verses in his account? What do they indicate of his overall thought or at least to one of the strains of his thought?1 This purpose will, therefore limit the scope of this paper. Consequently, the questions asked primarily by the source, historical or form critic will not be asked, and the answers provided by these schools of criticism will be used only to the extent that they contribute to the primary purpose of the paper: the determining of what the author meant when he had Paul speak these verses.
