Abstract

In the fall semester of 1952-1953, a research seminar class in the study of local topological rings was conducted at Marquette University under the direction of L. V. Toralballa. This investigation followed closely the methods and work of L. Pontrjagin in the theory of local topological groups and was, in fact, prompted by the desire to parallel to a limited degree, with reference to rings, the work so well developed with reference to groups in the theory of Lie Groups.
