Abstract

Historical works written by Indians may give an impression of the British as unjust and barbarous people who expanded their imperial economic interests whereas the British historians' narration about the same events may be altogether different. There were some British who visualized their presence in India as though it was the white man's burden to civilize India. At the same time there were a few natives who depicted that whatever the British did was to harm India . An impartial look at the past is essential in order to have a clear evaluation.
