Abstract

Despite the fact that thrombopathy (a qualitative disorder of the blood platelets) was described over twenty years ago, many patients are needlessly suffering the bleeding associated with this disorder due to the reluctance of many physicians to accept thrombopathy as a significant hemorrhagic state. The plight of the patient becomes more desperate due to the inability of many laboratories to demonstrate this condition. In an attempt to remedy this situation, I have undertaken a study of the disorder itself and the methods by which it is defined. This study was done on a large series of patients with thrombopathy and ran over a period of approximately four years. The investigations and results of this study are the basis of my thesis.
