Abstract

Universities have established counseling centers to meet the adjustment problems of their students. To make this service available to the students who need it most, the counselor’s role must be known to many groups on a university campus; but since the students, the student personnel staffs, and the teaching faculty enjoy vast differences in experience, it is assumed that differing perceptions of the counselor’s role may occur among these groups as well as within these groups. If these differences are true, lack of effective communication and effective working relationships may be expected when referring a student to a university counseling center. The present study attempts to identify these possible differences of opinion concerning the counselor’s role at Marquette University Counseling Center.
