Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain quantitative measurements of the developmental movement patterns of walking and the changes in these patterns during the transition stage between supported and independent walking of normal children. Quantitative measures of normal walking performance are necessary to provide baselines to identify the nature and degree of gait abnormalities. An understanding of normal gait and knowledge of the normal sequence of motor development are also essential for planning systematic treatment regimes and for evaluating the effect of therapeutic procedures.
