Abstract
One of the most useful models in the illustration of the properties and theorems involving hyperbolic geometry was proposed by the French mathematician Henri Poincare at the beginning of this century. The purpose of this paper will be to describe the derivation of this model and to discuss the properties of hyperbolic geometry through its use. This study will be preceded by a brief account of the life and work of Poincare, and an overview of the development of hyperbolic geometry. It will be followed by a short discussion of the implications of the development of hyperbolic geometry.
