Lester Johnson’s work was very much a rebellious response to the idea of abstract expressionism at the time and Chappell Roan’s artistry and music is also a rebellious response to current pop music and performance. Her approach to music is what inspired me to do this piece, especially as a queer artist who often uses bright, vivid, non-mainstream imagery in their work.
