I was really inspired both by how Tim Ebner's work looked, and the general idea presented of new texts in fanwork!
For Untitled (wolf alligator fish), I loved the charm of the colors, and the silly designs of the human-like animals interacting in their environment. The storybook-like coloring looks really fun!
For the idea of new texts, I thought that Sherlock Hound by its existence was a really cool example of a cartoon/anime that came out as a sort of a 'new text' of the classic Sherlock Holmes book series - with all new adventures and people these characters get to meet, as well as some alterations to the original stories.
In my piece, I thought it'd be fun to mimic the poses of the original art with Sherlock Hound and Watson, while also making up a new adventure for them - adding even more to the theme of new texts. In this art, I made up a new case where Hound and Watson are investigating missing jewels for a client, as well as some suspiciously sparkling fish in the water. (The fish pictured is an Atlantic Salmon, which can be found in England!)
I also tried to sort of mimic the style of Sherlock Hound, by making the picture intentionally fuzzy and grainy like old shows often were in picture quality!
