Creator's notes: Early into COVID19, I began to cope through tea. The more I began to love tea, the bigger need to learn how to do it well grew. I now have a small but prized tea cup collection, and I trade tea and cups with friends at times, and drink tea together. This cup and gaiwan are my favorite, and they uplift me on a bad day. I feel it is important to mention this cup is the work of cup master Chen Yunkai; another way art intersects this photo. This cup, following the name of the Haggerty piece, is my gold cup.

The original piece reflects a British style tea party. The porcelains my mother collected were largely American or British. I say embracing jianzhan and kongfu tea is me rebelling against my mother, and also me taking on new rules. I have found my mother taught me to have a good eye for pottery, but some of the rules do not work for jianzhan, for example. While kongfu and British tea party are both social, they are also different. This picture shows more affluent people keeping up with the Joneses. Oddly enough, where I am: most of my friends into kongfu are more punk etc.
