Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the publications in the junior high schools of the city of Milwaukee and suburbs. In brief, the history, the methods of assigning news, the selection of staffs, the instruction in journalism, the supervision by the adviser are included. The thesis portends to be a survey of the junior high school publications as revealed by the publications themselves and by the advisers. The dissertation further considers the type of publication, the number of subscriptions, the frequency of publication and whether or not the publication is self-supporting. While there have been innumerable studies treating of the senior high school publications, the junior high field has been summarily neglected. Inasmuch as the junior high field is a comparatively new feature of the modern educational system, perhaps the lack of attention paid its journalistic efforts is not unwarranted.
