Abstract
The world has cried for peace in all ages, still we find no genius or hero of this advocation. When we search for heroes or for prominent men of the past, we immediately reflect our minds upon some crisis. Washington's greatness was attained in the Revolution of the Colonies. Lincoln's success was preserving the Union. This is evidently true of the people of our country and With other countries as well. In my opinion, one of the catastrophies of human life is to be forced to settle our sincerest devot16n on the bloodshed of the past. If all the energy and accomplishments that have been spent on the evils of war, were applied to the perfection of the human mind, our hands would be grasping a higher round on the ladder of the present.
