Abstract
Although much research and investigation has been carried out during the past twenty years on t he hydrogenation of oils; only a small ·amount of this research has been devoted to the study of the hydrogenation of castor oil. In recent years much time has been devoted to the hydrogenation of those oils which yield edible fats. Castor oil, on the other hand, does not result upon hydrogenation in the formation of an edible fat, and hence, its characteristics were not fully studied. The intention of the author in doing this thesis was to obtain some data as to the effect of time, temperature, and pressure on the hydrogenation of castor oil. Much research remains to be done along these lines and it is hoped that this piece of work will be of assistance to those students who in the future plan to continue the investigation which is described in the following pages.
