Abstract
From the very first, I wish the state that the title, "General Morphology and Physiology of the Urogenital System of the Opossum," is not entirely descriptive of the text which is to follow. However it is as nearly descriptive as I could hope to make it.
It seems that during the history of biological research the workers have done comparatively little work on the Opossum. This neglect was probably due to its inaccessibility, since it is found only in Australia and in the semitropic regions of North America. In the nineteenth century the eminent authority on anatomy, Sir Richard Owen, scantily described, among countless other animals, the gross anatomy of the Opossum. Following this, there is quite a lapse in the work done on the opossum until contemporary times. The man who has probably done more work with the opossum than any other single person, is Dr. Carl G. Hartman of the University of Texas. Several other men have also become interested in the opossum, notably Dr. J. P. Hill of London.
