Abstract
The librarian is more fortunate than the teachers, who know only the pupils in their classes, for all she knows all the pupils in school. They come to her wanting help in lesson arrangements. Thus she has an opportunity to teach them how to use books and libraries. But still more important is that she has an opportunity to guide and direct the leisure reading of pupils. She must be a good judge of young human nature, a pleasant, patient, sympathetic, understanding kind of person if she is to win the confidence of boys and girls, if she is to be wise enough to lead them into the world of books or out of the world of trash, called books.
