Abstract
In the following three chapters I propose to discuss Der Pfarrer von Kirchfeld, Die Kreuzelschreiber, Der Meineidbauer, and Der G'wissenswurm, with an attempt to discover the attitude of the author, Ludwig Anzengruber, toward the Catholic Church. I shall not consider or attempt to discuss these dramas as regards their merit or demerit as dramatic works or as pieces of literature; nor shall I attempt to criticise the technique of the author, or his rank among the literary figures of the world. Any statements that I may make with regard to these points will be purely incidental and will not concern the thesis of this paper.
