Abstract

Usually one coil of the transformer has many more turns of wire than the other, when the coil of few turns is the primary, the transformer takes a large current at a low potential and delivers a smaller current at high potential. This is called a step up transformer. When the coil of many turns is the primary the transformer takes small current at high potential and delivers greater current at lower potential. This type is called a step down transformer.
