Abstract

The yield-line theory for the analysis of reinforced-concrete slabs with opening is discussed in this essay. The virtual work method was used to derive ultimate load equations and develop design charts for the limit state design of concrete slabs. A finite element model using the finite element program ANSYS was developed to model the structural response of a slab with an opening. The results from both the yield-line method and the finite element method are compared and discussed.
