Abstract
The prophetic writings are filled with large sections of words of warning, threat, wrath, and judgment, and often these prophetic words were not accepted very readily by the people to whom they were spoken. This is not all that the prophets have to say, however. Interspersed between images of Yahweh as a God who punishes His unfaithful people and gives them what they deserve, are short fragments and sometimes even lengthy passages portraying Him as a God of love, who forgives and consoles His people, a God who says to them, "Be not afraid, I am with you," a God who cannot bear to send upon them the punishment they deserve.
