Abstract
Gerard Manley Hopkins is a religious poet. He is not merely a religious man who writes poetry; nor is he a poet who writes about religious subjects. Poetry and religion fuse in the work of Hopkins into an integral whole. Through the medium of direct poetic apprehension Hopkins touches God; religious experience for him is the culminating phase of poetic experience.
