Abstract
Any student of current American affairs will be drawn to consideration of the vibrant reality of the American Catholic Church. The total population of the United States is 160, 000,000. Catholics comprise slightly less than one-fifth and slightly more than one-third of the 85 000,000 Americans who formally adhere to some recognized religious group. There are approximately 30,000,000 Catholics in the United States at the present time.
